What this value means

MARCH 2026 IS THE LATEST OFFICIAL FIGURE — THIS IS NOT STALENESS ON OUR SIDE. BNSI runs a genuine publication lag of roughly three months: the March 2026 CPI release is dated 26 June 2026, and the February 2026 release is dated 29 May 2026. As at 23 July 2026 no April, May or June 2026 CPI had been published. A consumer of this series should expect the reference month to trail the current month by about four months, and should NOT treat that as a broken feed. Next expected release: April 2026 CPI, around late July 2026. Detail for March 2026: month-on-month +0.35% versus February 2026 (following +0.95% between January and February). Largest monthly increases in Clothing and Footwear (+2.7%), Transport (+1.8%) and Health (+0.5%); largest monthly decrease in Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance (-2.1%). Largest year-on-year contributors: Restaurants and Hotels +17.6%, Furnishings/Household Equipment/Routine Household Maintenance +8.5%, Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels +4.4%; Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics fell 6.7% year-on-year. Petroleum prices +5.4% and diesel +6.4% month-on-month in March 2026. At 3.1% this is the highest year-on-year rate in more than two years and it is running above the IMF's 1.6% projection for Bahamian 2026 inflation reproduced in the CBOB MEFD. BNSI publishes NO SEPARATE JANUARY 2026 CPI RELEASE — the January figure is only recoverable as the base for the February release's month-on-month statement (-0.1% December 2025 to January 2026). Do not synthesise a January year-on-year value. RELATED BUT NOT THE SAME SERIES: the Central Bank of The Bahamas MEFD carries a 'Retail Price Index' line in its Real Sector Indicators table (index 122.26 for the latest 2026 month shown). That is the index level, not the year-on-year inflation rate, and it is republished with its own revisions. Use the BNSI CPI press release. ACCESS: www.bnsi.stats.gov.bs returns HTTP 403 to scripted fetchers (the CPI landing page must be opened in a real browser to enumerate releases), but the release PDFs themselves are hosted on cdn.bahamas.gov.bs and ARE fetchable directly with a normal user agent, and they carry a proper text layer. Point the watcher at the CPI listing page for new links, and fetch the CDN PDFs for values.
